Service Hour Standards for Hoist Gearbox Lubricant Changes

Most hoist gearboxes follow a clear hour-based oil change schedule, with break-in and regular service intervals. Always follow the manufacturer’s manual for your specific hoist model, as ratings can vary by design and application.

Standard Hour Intervals

  • First oil change (breakin): 50–100 operating hours

  • Regular oil change: 1,000 operating hours (whichever comes first: 1,000 hours or 6–12 months)

Adjustments for Severe Conditions

Shorten intervals under heavy loads, high heat, dust, or frequent duty cycles:

  • 750 hours for heavy/severe service

  • Immediate change if oil is dark, foamy, or contaminated
